ITO Transparent Conductive Coatings

ITO Transparent Conductive Coatings are used to inhibit the effects of EMI (Electro-Magnetic Interference), RFI (Radio-Frequency Interference and ESD (Electrostatic Discharge). These obstructions affect the reception and overall performance of electronic devices causing a great deal of damage to communications devices. EMI is electromagnetic radiation that is sent out by an electronic device and received another. This radiation can be both natural and aritficial. It impairs a large percentage of devices involved in the comm- unication process;
disabling instrument operators form getting the signals they need in order to perform a specific function.

Most EMI problems take place within a precise range of the electronic devices including computers and medical and aviation equip- ment are subject to this kind of interference, known as RFI or Radio-Frequency Interference. ESD is the result of friction generated between matter due to an uneven amount of electrons. ESD is more generally known as static, which usually pro- duces high levels of electricity. Lower levels are of greater concern because they are undetectable and can cause serious damage to electronic appliances. To eliminate EMI/RFI, conductive material such as metal can be used. Although metal and other con- ductive materials tolerate the transmission of signals without interruption, these materials are not flexible and do not contain all of the qualities that meet manufacturer's needs. ITO Coating are placed on a variety of non-conductive surfaces that are flexible and/or transparent. We primarily coat glass parts. QCI has spawned quality-shielding processes that have proven to uphold the maintenance of equipment and also live up to performance expectations.

Our ITO, Transparent Conductive Coating, (# CAR 4020) is durable, avoiding any peeling, flaking, crazing, cracking or delaminating, and all spectral character- istics will remain unchanged. The coat- ing also acheives maximum resistance; the surface substrate will not exceed 20 ohms per square. Typically ITO coatings are used where low resistance and high- transmission are needed. Theycan be applied to filters and fiber-optical faceplates including:displayes, touch panels and circuits, but ITO coatings are generally used on CRT displays. Our ITO Transparent Conductive Coating (# CAR 4020) contains excellent environmental charactericstics. Factors such as humidity, abrasion resistance, adhesion, and salt fog must be taken into consideration when investigating coatings. In an atmosphere having a relative humidity between 95 and 100% at 160 +/-4 degrees F, the coating shall withstand exposure for a period of 48 hours.

Concerning abrasion resistance, the coating is able to withstand an eraser rub test of 100 complete cycles at 2.0 to 2.5 lb. The eraser, conforming to MIL-E-12397, is rubbed across the same path, points to point. To test adhesion, we use tape conforming to MIL-M-13508C, and no part of the coating will be removed whent he tape is binded to the surface and then removed. The coating shall also forego exposure to a salt fog atomosphere for 48 hours at 95 degrees F without changing spectral characteristics. This test corresponds to MIL-STD-810B method 509.
